The game is based on years of research and experience in literacy science. It incorporates essential literacy skills, including phonemic awareness, letter recognition, phonics, vocabulary, and word reading, so children can develop a strong foundation for reading. The concept of caring for small creatures or cute little monsters was designed to encourage children's empathy, patience, and socio-emotional development.
Who are we?
The Feed the Monster app game was funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the Syria Educational Apps Competition. The original Arabic-language app was developed as a joint project between App Factory, the Center for Continuing Education and Training - Center for Educational Technology, and the International Rescue Committee.
The Feed the Monster game was created in English by the Curiosity for Learning Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to effective literacy content for everyone who needs it. We are a team of researchers, developers, and educators dedicated to providing children everywhere with a wonderful opportunity to learn to read and write in their native language, based on evidence and data. We are working to translate the Feed the Monster app into more than 100 languages to have a significant impact worldwide.
